Skills Development for Job Creation and Industrial Growth
Abstract
Meeting the aspirations of youth coupled with economic growth is central to development agenda for
the initiative of “New India by 2022” that encouraging lateral thinking and innovative ideas among
youth with formal decision making process to create an enabling environment for nation’s growth and
prosperity. In order to link skills developed into actual productive use, there is a requirement that the
demand made by the industries and supply of labour-force should be match for the proper
implementation of all types of skill development initiatives of the Government and its partner
agencies. For bridging this gap, multiple strategic initiatives have been taken by government of India
such as Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras, Pradhan Mantri
Yuva Yojana, Skills Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion (SANKALP) and
Skill Strengthening for Industrial Value Enhancement (STRIVE) etc for Skills and knowledge
development which is the driving forces behind the financial growth and community development of a
country. Therefore, the mission of a country to enjoy a massive “demographic dividend” will involve
both public and private sectors in a symbiotic relationship as public sector initiatives to restore,
reform and expand existing infrastructure will be required involvement of private sector for
management and running of Skill Development Programmes, ending with placement of competent
youth in industry.
